Quarashi

Released on October 13, 1997, Quarashi's self-titled debut album was the moment the band proved that Switchstance was no fluke. Following the explosive little EP that had already made waves across Iceland, Quarashi arrived on Lax Records/Pop Músík with Sölvi Blöndal at the production helm and promptly sold out all 6,000 copies, earning the band a gold record in Iceland. Packed with the raw energy, bilingual lyrics and genre-blurring attitude that would become Quarashi's signature, the album established them as a genuine force in Icelandic music. It was bold, restless and unmistakably their own — the sound of a young band pushing its way into the scene and refusing to ask permission. Fans affectionately know it as “The Egg Album,” thanks to the wonderfully strange egg gracing its cover. Today, the album has become a coveted piece of Quarashi history. Original copies are increasingly difficult to find, making this sold-out debut not just an important record, but a genuine collector's piece from the very beginning of the Quarashi story.
