'Mess It Up', 2003
The question hanging over 2003 was simple: what will Quarashi do next? Höskuldur had left the band after the Jinx campaign, and the world was watching to see whether the group would falter without its best-known voice.
The answer came in July, when Quarashi popped up with a brand new song, 'Mess It Up' — a collaboration with underground Icelandic rapper Opee (real name Ólafur Páll). Steini traded verses with Opee over a beat that proved the band's attack hadn't lost an ounce of bite, and a music video followed.
Opee performed with Quarashi at Menningarnótt, Reykjavík's Culture Night, in August 2003, turning the new collaboration into a live statement. 'Mess It Up' showed the world that Quarashi was bigger than any single member — and set the stage for the Guerilla Disco era to come.
